Hamilton West students raised $6,800 this year for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The largest event was held June 9 when Hamilton High School West hosted a Out of the Darkness campus walk. The money will help fund research to improve interventions, train clinicians in suicide prevention, and advocate for policy that will save lives in the community.
During the campus walk, community members and organizations turned out to support the cause and enjoy the day. Two food trucks—Try Vegan and Kona Ice—were available to attendees.
Also at the event, seven Hamilton West staff members agreed to sit in a dunk tank as part of the Change Challenge fundraiser. During May, students could donate change toward their favorite staff member, with the winner getting a seat on the dunk tank. Among those dunked were Hamilton High West principal Brian Smith.
The Hamilton West campus walk was just one of hundreds of Out of the Darkness walks around the country, all raising awareness and funds for suidice prevention. For more information, go online to afsp.donordrive.com
