The Ewing branch of the Mercer County Library will feature an exhibition of the works of two local photographers, Theresa A. Bowman Downing and Sarita L. Wilson during the month of February.
The theme of the exhibition, titled Celebrate Life—A Photo Exhibition, is “sharing the beauty of life and culture in our daily lives and through our travels,” according to a press release on the event. An opening reception will be held at the library on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Bowman Downing is a retired educator, photographer, published poet and president and CEO of Dantess Group, LLC. Born in Hamilton Township, she lived for many years in Trenton before moving to Ewing, where she lives with her husband, Daniel Downing. Her company offers services in writing, poetry, publishing, motivational speaking, consulting, workshops, seminars, event planning and management and photography.
Bowman Downing has been taking pictures since she was an undergraduate at Montclair State University. She said she enjoys photographing landscapes, nature, wildlife, unique architectural forms and events.
In 2011, she was appointed to serve as the photographer for the Shiloh Baptist Church Women’s Ministry. In 2013, she launched a line of greeting cards based on her photography. Her work has been exhibited at the Members Art Exhibition for the Arts Council of Princeton in 2014 and 2015, and the juried Off-The-Wall Artisan Market and Art Shows sponsored by the West Windsor Arts Council in 2015 and 2016.
Wilson is the principal owner of Sarita Wilson Photography. She has been taking pictures for more than 25 years.
She said that a few years ago, she realized that it was time to establish her business and formally offer her services. Her company covers all types of events from birthdays to weddings, individual and group portraits, landscape and wildlife photography.
Wilson participates in several community and charitable events including Art All Day and Night in 2014 and 2015, Help Portrait Trenton in 2015 and 2016, NAMI and March of Dimes Walk. She served in the military and retired after 20 years of honorable service with the New Jersey Army National Guard. Wilson currently lives in Ewing with her son, Larry.
