Will there be a Community Fest in Ewing this year?

In every edition of the Ewing Observer, Mayor Bert Steinmann answers readers’ questions. We often hear questions from members of the community that don’t get submitted to Ask the Mayor. We decided to pose some of them to him this month.

Ewing Community Fest was cancelled last year due to the Campus Town construction at The College of New Jersey. Do you know if the event will be held this year?

Unfortunately, we will not be hosting a Community Fest this year. The location where we hold Community Day is currently part of the ongoing construction efforts on the campus of TCNJ. We will, however, be hosting an expanded fireworks show on July 2 off of Green Lane behind TCNJ, a much more active National Night Out in August, and don’t miss our 2nd Annual Ewing Community Bike Ride in concert with the Ewing Green Team.

Does Ewing’s noise ordinance prohibit a resident from running loud machinery between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. during the week or on weekends? What should a resident do if they have a noise complaint?

The ordinance that addresses this is Ordinance #240-7, and it states that from Monday through Friday, loud machinery can only operate from 7 am to 10 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. If you have a noise-related complaint please contact the police department while the noise is occurring. They can be reached at (609) 882-1313, ext. 1 for non emergencies.

What is the township’s stand on outdoor cats and dogs that have been neutered/spayed? Are people allowed to allow their cats and dogs to roam free throughout the neighborhood?

All dogs are required to be licensed on an annual basis. The license can be obtained by visiting the Township Clerk’s Office, and if you have any questions about the license, please call (609) 883-2900, ext. 7606. All dogs are also required to be on a leash. If any dogs are roaming free, please contact the police department and they will send out animal control to pick up the dog and take it to the shelter until the owner can claim it. Cats are not licensed, although if there are large gatherings of cats the animal shelter will be contacted to assess the situation for health and safety. As a town we strongly encourage all pets to be spayed or neutered, and require it for all adoptions from our shelter.

If you have a question for the mayor for next month’s edition, submit it by emailing bsanservino@mercerspace.com or by going to mercerspace.com and searching for “Ask the Mayor.” You must be a Ewing resident.

Ask the Mayor: What is all the construction work on Parkway Avenue?
