SERV Behavioral Health System, Inc. is set to hold its 25th annual Volley For SERV Tennis Tournament Silver Anniversary event on June 15, 2015 to benefit special-needs adults and youth.
Founded in 1974, SERV (Social, Educational, Residential and Vocational) provides residential and support services for adults and youth throughout New Jersey with severe and persistent mental illnesses and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Volley For SERV, a doubles tournament with men’s, women’s and mixed A and B divisions, will take place June 15 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman. The daylong event will feature a six-division tournament followed by a pros exhibition, an evening reception with hors d’oeuvres, dinner and open bar, live entertainment, silent and live auctions, Super 50/50 Cash Raffle drawing, player awards and the recognition of two honorees.
This year’s honorees are Alice Hecht Giedekier of Wycoff, who will receive the fourth Annual SERVice Award; and Ted Golfinopoulos of Skillman, who will receive the fifth annual Lou Natale Jr. Players Award.
The SERVice Award will be presented to Giedekier in appreciation for her 13 years of dedication and leadership as a board member at SERV. Giedekier, a First Vice President of Investments for Wells Fargo Advisors in Wayne, is a member of the Board of Directors of SERV Centers of New Jersey. She also serves on the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee of SERV BHS. In addition, she has led the popular “Money Matters” workshop multiple times at SERV’s annual “Recovery NJ Conference.”
Golfinopoulos will receive the Natale Award, acknowledging the many years he has participated as a player at Volley For SERV and his sponsorship of the event. An avid tennis player, Golfinopoulos has chaired the VFS Committee multiple times and through his real estate company, TG & Associates of Pennington, has been a sponsor, as well. He also serves as secretary of The SERV Foundation Board of Directors.
Net profits from Volley For SERV will benefit The SERV Foundation Scholarship Fund for SERV consumers who wish to pursue a field of study but have little means to do so, and the annual SERV Recovery NJ Conference, a health-and-wellness educational gathering for mental health consumers and their family members.
The cost for an individual VFS player is $195, which includes tournament play, a VFS shirt, a commemorative team photo, courtside lunch and the evening dinner reception with open bar. Reception-only tickets are $90.
