U.S. Rep. Rush Holt announced that the Federal Aviation Administration awarded Mercer County a $880,000 grant to enable the Trenton-Mercer Airport to purchase a new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle on Aug.27.
Under FAA rules, airports must provide aircraft rescue and firefighting services during certain air carrier operations to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The existing firefighting vehicle at the Trenton-Mercer Airport is more than 11 years old.
“As the Trenton-Mercer Airport continues to grow, it plays an increasingly important role in connecting the people and businesses of Mercer County to the rest of the country,” Holt said in a statement. “This grant will ensure that the airport can continue to provide safe, reliable, and expanding service.”
