The Second Annual Central New Jersey Bark Now for Autism Speaks, a dog-friendly 5K walk, is set for April 13.
Check-in is set for 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. at Mercer County Park East Picnic Area, 1346 Edinburg Road, West Windsor.
The day includes a 5K dog walk, light refreshments for both humans and their pets, music by NJ 101.5, Autism Speaks Family Services and Bark Now for Autism Speaks merchandise tents.
Registration is online at barknow.autismspeaks.org/CentralNJ.
There is a $25 online registration fee for dogs, $30 day-of event. Humans walk for free.
All event proceeds are set to benefit Autism Speaks, a nonprofit organization that aims to raise awareness, fund research and assist individuals with Autism.
Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders – autism spectrum disorders – caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences. These disorders are characterized by communication difficulties, social and behavioral challenges, as well as repetitive behaviors. According to the organization, one in every 88 children is diagnosed with Autism.
