The Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County plans to open their Bike Exchange for the seveth season on Saturday, March 21 at 10 a.m. The shop is located in the Capitol Plaza shopping center at 1500 North Olden Avenue in Ewing.
The Bike Exchange collects, repairs and sells bikes that have been donated from individuals across the region. The volunteer-operated shop sold 1,758 bikes and raised more than $90,000 for the Boys and Girls Club in 2014. Since its founding in 2009 the Bike Exchange has sold more than 10,600 bikes and raised more than $500,000 for the Boys and Girls Club. As a result of the success of the Trenton effort, Bike Exchanges have been opened in Newark, New Brunswick and Plainfield.
The Bike Exchange plans to open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 7:45, and Saturdays from 10:00 to 3:45. The shop has a variety of bikes including basic kids bikes with training wheels, bikes for kids of all ages and bikes for adults, including road bikes, hybrid and mountain bikes which anyone can purchase.
The organization works to recycle, refurbish and sell used bikes in order to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, help low income families and individuals purchase low-cost bikes, encourage fitness, health and green transportation options, provide young people with valuable work skills, and raise significant funds for their cause.

The Bike Exchange also welcomes new volunteers to the effort. The Bike Exchange needs volunteers to manage the shop, to help customers choose bikes, to fix, clean and repair donated bikes, to organize bike drives and to transport donated bikes to the shop. Volunteers of all skill levels and all levels of bike knowledge can and do make valuable contributions to the effort. The Bike Exchange is an excellent place for individuals interested in learning and practicing bike repair while helping youth in Trenton.
