Will there be special or additional curbside pick-up this spring? In light of the winter we had, I’m sure many residents like me have a lot of fallen tree branches from the ice storm we would like to get rid of.

The Township Public Works Department will be picking up brush/leaves at the curb until the end of May. You may also drop brush and bagged leaves at the Jack Stephan Way location Monday through Saturday until 3:30 p.m.
As a Ewing resident who uses the sidewalks daily, this weather raises the question of a homeowner’s responsibility to clear the sidewalks on their property.
I’ve noticed several homeowners do not touch their sidewalks or only shovel once, but don’t maintain a clear path with salt or sand causing the walkway to become a sheet of ice.
It frightens me to think that our children could be walking to and from school in the road to avoid the treacherous terrain of the sidewalk. What is the responsibility/liability of a Ewing homeowner to maintain a clear sidewalk?

The homeowner is responsible to clear the sidewalk within 12 hours after the snow has stopped. This is referenced in Township ordinance Chapter 325-2, Article 1. If the walks are not cleared for safe passage for the pedestrian public, both the police and code enforcement can issue tickets for the violation.
