The New Jersey Farm to School Network and Edible Jersey magazine are accepting entries for the second annual School Garden of the Year contest.
All New Jersey schools are eligible to apply by submitting a description and photos of their garden and filling out a survey.
Along with Overall Garden of the Year, submissions will be considered for Best Nutrition Education Based Garden, Best Community Collaboration and Best Environmental Education Focused Garden.
Last year, 165 schools entered the contest. New Jersey Farm to School Network and Edible Jersey awarded Eugene A. Tighe Middle School in Margate the top prize.
According to the Downbeach Current, the school received $1,000 to buy seeds and supplies for their garden, which already grew vegetables like cucumbers and Swiss chard.
This year’s contest is slightly adapted to allow for greater ease of submission and broader eligibility of garden categories.
The contest submissions are due July 1.
