Mercer County Community College is set to host Black History month events in February.
Events are set for both the West Windsor and Trenton campuses.
Black History Month opening ceremonies are set for 11:30 a.m. Feb.1 at Kerney Hall, 102 North Broad Street, Trenton. Trenton campus Provost, Monica Weaver is set to be the keynote speaker.
1960 Black, a play about the development of civil rights during the decade, is set for 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at West Windsor’s Kelsey Theatre, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor.
Tickets prices are set to be $5 for students and $10 for general public. Tickets may be purchased at the Bursar’s Office at either campus or at the door.
An art history lecture is set for 12 p.m. Feb. 6 at KC319 on the Trenton campus. Professor Mel Leipzig is set to present African-American Painters: Horace Pippin and Jacob Lawrence.
Drumming: The Musical Evolution of African Continentals Throughout the World, is set for 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at West Windsor’s student center.
Women’s and men’s basketball game versus Morris County College is set for 5 p.m. 12 at West Windsor’s MCCC gymnasium. Tickets prices are set to be $3 for adult, $1 for senior citizens and free for MCCC students and children under.
It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Night sponsored by American Association for Women in Community Colleges and the MCCC Athletic Department.
A screening of the documentary “Hidden Colors,” with discussion moderated by Professor Alvyn Haywood, is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 15, at Kerney Hall.
A variety show sponsored by Youth College, Delta Youth, Trenton Campus Provost’s Office, and the African-American Student Organization is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at Kelsey Theatre.
A fireside chat with vice president of academic affairs, Guy Generals, and a panel discussion on the novel “Warmth of our Sons” is set for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Kerney Hall.
Gospelfest 2013 featuring the Meelow-Aires, The Voices, and Bill Baylor and Surround, with student Tashanna Ellis serving as worship leader, is set for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Friendship Baptist Church, 111 Perry Street, Trenton.
Closing ceremonies, featuring an African dance troupe, are set for 12 p.m. Feb. 28, at West Windsor’s student center.
