In January 2017, Bordentown resident Michael Costa had his first seizure and what was thought to be non-cancerous lesions on his brain. After multiple medical opinions, he is currently being treated at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for brain, stomach and liver cancer, all Stage III.
Over the past year, Michael’s body has continuously endured chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy and gamma knife surgery. Unfortunately, he cannot undergo surgery for his stomach or liver, as doctors fear this will cause the cancer to spread even more.
As you can imagine, these treatments are extremely expensive, as are the PET scans, MRIs and testing on a regular basis.
On top of his cancer diagnosis, Michael was laid off from his job several weeks ago. In addition, his savings have already been depleted to cover the cost of his cancer treatments.
We see what this past year has done to our friend and our brother Michael, along with his 14-year-old daughter, Alexis, and his amazing fiancé, Diane, who are the reason for his continued courage.
As a community, we have come together to show our unconditional support for Michael and his family and are holding an event on Feb. 17, 2018 to raise funds to continue treatment and support his family.
