The Old City Hall Restoration Project Committee has scheduled a bus trip open to the public on Friday, Sept. 18 to visit historic Doylestown in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Doylestown is located about an hour drive by bus from Bordentown City. The day-trip plan includes stops at the James A. Michener Art Museum, Mercer Museum located in the Cultural District, and a stop at the Newtown Farmer’s Market. The excursion was planned to help support the City of Bordentown for ongoing restorations at Bordentown’s historic landmark building, “The Old City Hall” at 13 Crosswicks St. in Bordentown City.The cost of a full day is $60 per person and includes round-trip bus fare; admissions to both museums and the galleries that showcase the works of Bucks County’s artisans and collectors. A stop at the Newtown Farmer’s Market is part of the trip on the return home to Bordentown.The James A. Michener Art Museum was named after Doylestown’s Pulitzer Prize-winning author and is home to world class touring and permanent exhibits, the finest collection of regional artwork and home to the famed Pfundt Outdoor Sculpture Gallery. The archaeologist, anthropologist, artist and scholar, Henry Chapman Mercer, built the Mercer Museum. The Mercer Museum is a six-story concrete castle and showcases its founder’s personal collection of over 30,000 pre-industrial artifacts.Proceeds from the excursion will help support the restoration of Bordentown City’s Old City Hall. A lot more is needed at the main building, but discussions are continuing about restorations on the fire house side of the building; finalizing construction of a service kitchen in the former clerk’s office; two new restrooms on the first floor; and an elevator for the building.Only 51 seats are available on the bus and include handicap accessibility.
