A cherished year-end celebration returns to the War Memorial in Trenton as the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey welcomes 2026 with its annual New Year’s Eve Celebration Concert.
The evening begins at 7:10 p.m. with a pre-concert organ recital by Ian Fraser, the award winning young theatre organist. His appearance offers a rare chance to hear the War Memorial’s historic organ in a featured setting.
The 8 p.m. concert offers a bright and welcoming program of light classical repertoire. This year also marks the return of conductor Ruth Ochs to the CPNJ podium as a finalist in the orchestra’s Music Director search. Ochs is widely respected for her two decades of leadership of the Princeton University Sinfonia, her frequent work with the Princeton University Orchestra, and her long tenure with the Westminster Community Orchestra. Musicologist Joel Phillips will return as master of ceremonies to introduce the program and guide the audience through the evening.
The celebration continues the Philharmonic’s commitment to community partnerships. TCAT, the arts program of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, will present artwork created by self-taught and emerging Trenton artists. Through its Studio 51 gallery, TCAT provides exhibition opportunities, donated supplies, cultural outings, open studio hours, and platforms for artists to share and sell their work. Much of the artwork will be displayed in the War Memorial’s Ballroom during the post-concert festivities.
After the concert, all ticket holders are invited to the Ballroom for a champagne toast and reception. The gathering will feature champagne, light sweet treats, and a change of sound as several orchestra musicians shift from classical repertoire to jazz. The reception has become one of the most anticipated parts of the event, offering a warm setting for musicians, patrons, and community members to celebrate the new year together.
“Our New Year’s Eve celebration reflects everything we believe an orchestra should be,” said Jill Aguayo, executive director of the Capital Philharmonic. “It brings people together, showcases the extraordinary music and art in our region, and highlights the creative vibrancy of Trenton.”
