The Trenton Downtown Association (TDA) has announced the appointment of Thomas C. Rust as its new executive director. Rust brings more than three decades of strategic expertise in operations, marketing, finance and business development to the role at the helm of the nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the capital city’s central business district.
Rust has served in executive leadership positions at Comcast Wireless, Princeton Power Systems, and NRG Investment Partners LLC. His experience spans launching and scaling companies, managing international teams, negotiating multimillion-dollar contracts, and driving community-focused initiatives.
“I am honored to step into this role at such a pivotal time for Trenton,” said Rust, a native of Trenton, whose deep passion for history, architecture, culture and wellness has kept him drawn to the city throughout his life. “Downtown Trenton has so much to offer, from its rich history to its strong entrepreneurial spirit. As New Jersey’s state capital, Trenton is also a hub of culture, commerce and community. I look forward to working with local businesses, government and residents to help bring that vision to life.”
Beyond his extensive corporate background, Rust has served on the boards of multiple Chambers of Commerce.
“TDA is entering an exciting new phase, and I’m thrilled to bring my energy, ideas and appreciation for Trenton’s history and future to this position,” Rust added. “I believe we can strengthen the downtown economy while preserving what makes Trenton unique.”
Austin Edwards, chair of the TDA board of directors, noted: “Tom Rust has a proven track record in strategic growth, operational excellence and community collaboration, and he will be a tremendous asset to the TDA. We’re confident that under his leadership, downtown Trenton will see meaningful progress.”
