From poetry readings and history talks to crafts, concerts and technology classes, the Mercer County Library System will host dozens of events in September for adults, teens and children.

The programs span the library system’s nine branches and include both virtual and in-person options.

Among the virtual offerings, The Time to Hear is Here will be held Sept. 4 at 6 p.m., featuring Ron Gottardi from the nonprofit of the same name.

Gottardi will discuss the prevalence of hearing loss in older adults, advances in hearing technology, Medicare coverage for hearing aids, cell phone apps and shopping tips.

Former Lawrence Township historian Dennis Waters will present What Did We Learn and When Did We Learn It? on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. The talk will explore the history of public education in Lawrence Township, from early schooling to the impact of suburban growth.

Other virtual events include Breaking Barriers: Getting Started with Hispanic Genealogy on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and Manhattan’s Little Syria with author Linda Jacobs on Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Visit events.mcl.org to register to receive the link to the program.

In-person highlights include a Sept. 2 squash demonstration at the West Windsor Branch, a “Paint Like Frida Kahlo” art program the same evening at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch, and the Organic Farming Movement documentary screening on Sept. 5 in Lawrence.

Cultural and literary programs range from a Sept. 11 Poetry Circle on French writer Louis Aragon to the inaugural MCLS Book Festival on Sept. 27 with keynote poet Alicia Ostriker.

Branches will also host craft workshops, meditation sessions, book clubs, genealogy talks, language conversation groups, game nights, children’s storytimes and STEM-themed activities throughout the month.

Registration is required for most programs and can be completed at events.mcl.org.
