Mercer County area communities will mark the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks today with a series of ceremonies and remembrances.
Events are scheduled in towns across the area, including Trenton, Hamilton, Lawrence, Ewing, Robbinsville, Princeton, West Windsor, East Windsor, Allentown and Hopewell.
Municipal officials, first responders and residents will gather at memorials, township centers and community parks to honor the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the attacks and the thousands more who have died or become ill in the years since.
The following programs will include wreath-layings, processions, readings and moments of silence.
City of Trenton, Trenton Fire Headquarters, 244 Perry St. 8:30 a.m. ceremony followed by a 9 a.m. 9/11 Run & Bike Ride.
Lawrence Township Memorial Ceremony, 160 Pilla Ave. 8:30 a.m. at the township memorial.
Hopewell Borough Processional & Ceremony, Hopewell Borough Hall. 9:15 a.m. ceremony following an 8:45 a.m. processional from near Hopewell Elementary.
Hamilton Township Commemoration, Veterans Park, Memorial Grove, Klockner Rd. entrance. 10 a.m. service honoring victims and first responders.
Robbinsville Remembrance, Lake Dr. & Hutchinson Rd., Town Center. 10 a.m. wreath-laying in memory of resident Pamela Gaff and all victims.
Princeton Remembrance, Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, 2 Mount Lucas Rd. Noon. Community ceremony hosted by first responders.
Princeton University Service of Remembrance, 9/11 Memorial Garden, between Nassau Hall & Chancellor Green. 12:30 p.m. campus service of reflection.
East Windsor Program, Municipal Building, 16 Lanning Blvd. 5 p.m. ceremony with wreath-laying at the township memorial.
Allentown Day of Remembrance Procession & Memorial, Allentown (procession to Pete Sensi Park). 6 p.m.–9 p.m. community procession on Allen Drive followed by a memorial service.
Ewing Memorial Ceremony, Police & Firefighter Memorial, 2 Jake Garzio Dr. 6 p.m. remembrance behind the municipal building.
West Windsor Memorial Ceremony, Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum, Clarksville Rd. & Princeton-Hightstown Rd. 7 p.m. remembrance at the Memorial Twin Ponds.
Hopewell Township held a remembrance ceremony on Sept. 6 at Woolsey, The ceremony was hosted by the Hopewell Valley 9/11 & Emergency Services Memorial Committee.
All ceremonies are open to the public.
