Photography lovers are spoiled for choice with two ongoing exhibits featuring multiple photographers working in a range of styles and subjects. And both shows are free to go and visit.
Gallery 14
Three simultaneous exhibitions are on view at Gallery 14 Fine Art Photography in Hopewell. The shows are on view through Sunday, November 24. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment.
Rebecca DePorte, new to Gallery 14 in 2024, is an award-winning photographer specializing in wildlife. Her photographs have been published in USA Today, FotoNostrom, BirdWatching Magazine, Gardener’s Journal, and Backroads catalog. In 2024 she received awards from International Photography Awards, Audubon Photography awards, and the 24th Julia Margaret Cameron Award. Becky has taught Wildlife Photography at Princeton Adult School. Becky’s favorite subjects are animals with fur or feathers. Her exhibition, “Walk on the Wild Side,” features the animals she has photographed in Africa, India, and the U.S.
Longtime member of Gallery 14, Charles T. Miller is considered by many to be a “flower photographer” but over time he has worked on many styles of photography and presentation styles. For this exhibit, titled “‘Old And New: Exploring Alternatives!” he presents a variety of images, both old and new. Most are floral images, but not all. He also reaches back in time to show some alternative styles of presenting works including on fabric, metal and acrylic. Images may be straight photography, or they may be highly manipulated works using available software to create new visions. Miller was originally trained as a theater designer, and his works are highly influenced by a theatrical approach and style. “I like to work on pieces to find new looks and hidden beauty, so they become more than just a photograph. They should take the viewer into new unexplored visual worlds,” he says.
The final exhibit features work by the Watercolor Women of Gallery 14, a group of artists that former member Larry Parsons supported and helped bring into the gallery. This is their annual exhibit of new works and older pieces. The group uses the gallery as a special learning studio with a focus on watercolor. The featured artists include Janet Bacon, Julie Cavallaro, Nancy Gardner, Jean Parsons, Joyce Reynolds, and Aimee Viola.
