Hopewell Valley Soccer Associations week three game updates

The following game recaps were submitted by the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association coaches. They have been edited for clarity and length. The games took place Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23.

Division Three Boys

On Saturday, Stark & Stark broke a 1-1 tie on an incredible goal by Shane Sullivan to defeat HVSA-Green by a score of 2-1. The first goal was scored by Tommy Irvine, from an aggressive cross from Aaron Nulman with a defender on him. On Sunday, Stark & Stark defeated Jack’s Nursery 3-0. On the scoreboard twice was Jackson Blackwell, who had two nice goals to lead the scoring. The third goal was scored by Ethan Peck, who took a perfect crossing pass from Tommy Irvine. Goalie Adam Rise was tremendous to preserve the shutout.

Division Three Girls

Coming off a 1-0 loss on Saturday against Jack’s Nursery, the HVSA Purple Pandas bounced back, defeating PQM Flower Shop by a score of 2-1. Amanda Flanders scored off a perfectly placed pass from Lilla Antal. Amanda F scored the second goal as she broke free from midline, and hit the upper right corner in the back of the net from 30 yards out.

On Saturday, Jack’s Nursery defeated HVSA – Purple 1-0 win. Lily Ryan scored in the first half. On Sunday, Jack’s Nursery defeated Dick’s Sporting Goods 4-2. Lily Ryan scored the lone goal in the first half, supported throughout by Manvi Shah and Eve Szeliga, who provided too many assists to count. Eve Szeliga, Manvi Shah, and Lily Ryan scored the remaining three goals. Chelsea Kent, had a fabulous game in the goal in the second half.

Division Two Boys

On Saturday, Team HVSA-White lost to DeSimone Orthodontics 5-4. DeSimone came out strong, scoring five goals in the first half. Trevor LiVecchi, assisted by Anthony Raub, drove one to the net for Team HVSA-White in the second quarter. Team HVSA-White rallied in the second half with goals by Chance Hutnik and Trevor LiVecchi, his second of the game. Juan Geller had a penalty shot goal in the last quarter.

On Saturday, Greenleaf Lawn & Landscape defeated Northwestern Mutual 5-2. With just 10 seconds left in the second quarter and trailing 2-0, midfielder Ethan Valenza scored, assisted by Eli Moyer. Justin Edgington scored his sixth goal of the season. A few minutes later, Ethan scored his second goal of the game. Nathan Camilleri also scored. In the fourth quarter, Justin scored Greenleaf’s fifth and final goal. On Sunday, Greenleaf lost 2-0.

Rely Mechanical lost to Horvath and Giancin on Saturday, 2-1. Rely took an early lead when John Troiano scored with an assist from Bryson Chase. Preston Horvath played two strong quarters in goal for Rely. On Sunday, Rely lost to DeSimone Orthodonics 4-2. Scoring for Rely were John Troiano, Conor O’Boyle, Ryan Fornal and Eli Pashman. Michael Fornal and Jake Parker played strong at goalie for Rely on their first opportunities in the net.

Princeton Nassau Pediatrics persevered through the rain Sunday to defeat team Wilson Apple Funeral Home 3-2. Princeton Nassau Pediatrics struck early in the first quarter, with an goal by Emil Rybovic, followed soon after by goal by Bodhi Brown. The final goal was scored by Emil Rybovic on a penalty kick in the fourth quarter.

Division Two Girls

Franco’s Pizza defeated Dr. McDonough’s Live Wires 3-1 on Saturday. Emily Simpson had her best game of the season with brilliant efforts both at the midfield position and defending the goal. Despite the loss, the Live Wires were led by a strong effort by the defense, and a goal by Megan Kurian.

The Northfield Bank Tigers clawed their way back to a 2-1 victory over the DeSimone Orthodontics Blue Whales on Saturday. Mia Scupari and Olivia Branham both scored goals for the Tigers, while Gerise Kelly’s defending and Kelly Hujber’s goalkeeping kept a clean sheet in the second half. For the Blue Whales, Elizabeth Buchert scored the lone goal with a beautiful left footed shot, while Mya Loutfi played her best game of the season leading a defensive effort.
