The Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Fashion/Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising Programs invite the community to “Fashion, Arts and More,” a showcase and runway show of student work from the 2017-’18 academic year.
The event takes place Thursday, May 3, starting at 6 p.m. in Trenton Hall at 137 North Broad Street at the college’s James Kerney Campus.
A reception for community guests will include light refreshments. Some activities will take place in the lobby, with the main show to be held in a studio space on the top floor of the newly renovated building.
Guests will be greeted by two window displays designed by Fashion Merchandising students. One of the windows will feature a breast cancer awareness theme in tribute to JKC Dean and Provost Monica L. Weaver, who died in early April. Proceeds from raffle baskets will be donated to a scholarship fund in Weaver’s name, along with the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Fashion Program Coordinator Katina Lindsay says approximately 50 students, models, program alumni, and faculty members are participating in the event featuring several collections and more than 30 individual pieces featured in displays or on the runway.
Among the clothing line themes are “Pop Art,” “Silver Lining,” “Summer Peacock Nights,” and “On the Surface.” Store-themed and fashion history exhibits, and fashion artwork will also be on view.
The MCCC Fashion/Apparel Design program offers a foundation in art, design, and technical studies, focuses on both the creative and business aspects of the industry, and prepares students for advanced study by paralleling coursework from the first two years of four-year fashion schools.
Recent graduates of these programs have transferred to Fashion Institute of Technology and LIM College in New York City, and Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.
