Robbinsville High School’s annual spring musical is always a spectacle, and this year’s show promises to be nothing less.
Running March 31 through April 2, RHS’s production of Bring It On the Musical follows the story of the hit movie but throws in music written by Lin-Manuel Miranda—the brains and face of last year’s Broadway craze Hamilton—dancing, and carefully choreographed stunts usually found at cheerleading competitions. Robbinsville High head cheerleading coach Lauren Varnum even came onboard this year to serve as the show’s cheer coordinator.
The musicial follows the story of Campbell Davis, the rising cheer captain of Truman High School who unexpectedly gets redistricted and is forced to enroll at Jackson, a high school without a cheer team. In spite of being distanced from her cheer squad, boyfriend, and her comfort zone, Campbell, with the help of Danielle and other dance crew members from her new school, must form an award-winning team to compete in the National Cheer Championship against her new rivals, Truman.
Robbinsville High musical director Brian Williams has 43 cast and 33 crew in the show, all students at RHS. It stars Lauren Rejent as Campbell, Erin Godfrey as Skylar, Allison Brower as Kylar, Devon Fruscione as Eva, Maryn Matisa as Danielle, Daria Dittman as Nautica, Marc Caiola as La Cienega, Andrew Malabunga as Randall, Jacob Katz as Steven, Owen Kuhn as Twig, Kaeleigh Sturgeon as Bridget, and James Cavanaugh-Gialloreto as Cameron.
Performances are Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 1 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 2 at 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale at rp.booktix.com, and cost $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
