New office trumps sturdy trailer every time. The West Windsor administration unveiled its concept plan for new offices at the post office facility at a June 20 Council work session.
The township owns the site and will evenly share the facility with the existing post office. Declining the option of using its portion for community space, the administration plans to convert its half of the facility, roughly 2,700 square feet, into office space for the Health and Recreation departments.
The two departments currently occupy the old police wing in the main municipal building and an adjoining trailer. Fire and emergency services staff moved to Everett Drive earlier this year. The health division has eight full-time employees and recreation has three. There are also numerous part-time and seasonal employees.
Under the concept plan, a public entrance to the offices will be adjacent to the post office entrance, while staff members will have an entrance and parking in the rear. The office space will consist of enclosed and open work areas, and renovations will include HVAC replacements and improvements.
The administration’s estimate for the post office renovation is $1 million. The next priority for the municipal complex is fixing the main building’s roof, replacing generators, HVAC improvements and ADA-compliance upgrades. The old police wing being vacated will eventually be converted for staff and public use.
At the June 13 meeting, Council approved a package of bond ordinances totaling $3.767 million and another set of ordinances appropriating more than $1.1 million of existing funds for capital projects . More than half of the bonded monies will pay for roadway improvements and hazard mitigation, and another $580,000 is allocated for sewer improvements.
Booze. The township’s 14 liquor licenses were renewed. Distribution licensees are: Wegmans, Trader Joes, and McCaffreys. Those with consumption licenses: TGI Fridays, Big Fish, On the Border, P.F. Chang, Brick House Tavern, Bahama Breeze/Seasons 52, Anjappaar Chettinad, Buffalo Wild Wings, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place, and the Bog.
Fourth of July festivities. Council approved a fireworks display permit at Mercer County Park on Saturday, July 2, starting no later than 9:30 p.m.
