Though its founders and company name come from the town of Ripiano, Italy, Zomparelli Contractors LLC/ Ripi Concrete is firmly rooted in Mercer County.
The family owned and operated company has been around since 1975, when it was established by brothers Joe and Frank Zomparelli.
Founder Joe Zomparelli first moved to the United States in 1960, and was later joined in 1966 by his father, mother, Frank and 14-year-old brother Romolo Zomparelli.
Their father had worked in the concrete business, and his sons took it a step further by starting their own company.
Frank left the business in 1979, and Romolo joined the company that same year. In 2004, Romolo took over the ownership of Zomparelli Contractors LLC/Ripi Concrete with his sons, Massimo and Marco, who continue to run it with him today.
Romolo, who lives in Hamilton with his wife Maria, just celebrated 37 years in the business.
“I can’t imagine doing anything else,” he said. “I love coming to work each day and serving our customers. I love the business; you’ve got to like what you are doing.”
He said he has no plans to retire. “What am I going to do, sit at home and argue with my wife?” he said.
He is proud to work with his sons, who are also part of the Hamilton community. Massimo and Marco both graduated from Steinert High School, and still live in the township. Massimo and his wife, Blayn, have two children, Ariana and Massimo Carl. Marco and his wife, Tiffany, have a daughter, Giordana.
Zomparelli Contractors LLC/Ripi Concrete specializes in all types and sizes of concrete projects, including driveways, sidewalks, curbs, patios, brick pavers and asphalt, for both residential and commercial customers. They are also happy to install any type of paver design, which can complement any home or business, as well as vinyl and aluminum railings.
Their familiar red trucks are fixtures around the area, also providing concrete removal and replacement.
“We are very proud of the quality of our work,” Massimo said. “Customer service is our No. 1 priority, and we always make sure that our customers are completely satisfied.”
Massimo started working at the company at age 14 during the summers, and said he also can’t see himself doing anything else.
“I love working with my hands,” he said. “I can’t imagine working at a desk. This keeps you in shape.”
Marco said he enjoys working with his father and brother, as well as in the outdoors.
The company has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, and has contracts with the city of Trenton, Hamilton Township and Mercer County for sidewalks and other concrete work. Last year, it constructed ADA handicap ramps and curbs in Hamilton and are now building them in Trenton.
They have also provided concrete services for Capital Health, East Windsor Woods and Mercer County libraries, among many other area businesses.
“We have a great reputation,” Romolo said. “We are always very busy. But we always answer calls right away, and provide a quick response for all our customers.”
The company provides free estimates, with weekend appointments available.
