Just a quick word of worthy congratulations to Bill Sanservino, editor, for his new responsibilities. It is well deserved. The best way to reach one’s goals is to put those goals in writing — a vital role the WW-P News serves. It also seeks to hold our politicians and officials honest and accountable.
WW-P is extremely fortunate to have the forum of WW-P News to express concerns about issues affecting our communities. And we are able to communicate and share ideas and thoughts at no cost through this invaluable medium. The issues addressed locally are hardly the fodder for the WSJ or New York Times so I encourage all readers to pen their thoughts on how to make WW-P the best place to live and work.
As argued for many years, I appreciate that the schools and municipalities are inextricably entwined. Those who crafted the unique arrangement of two municipalities within two different counties with different forms of government afford our citizens an opportunity to compare how West Windsor (mayor-council form) differs from Plainsboro’s township committee form. I find the arrangements remarkable and visionary.
Freedom is not free so we must engage our communities in the democratic processes — particularly our students who will inherit the challenges ahead. When our community is involved, we build better stakeholders.
There is legitimate cause on multiple fronts for concern regarding the WW-P schools. Hopefully you, members of the public, will be able to come to a board meeting or two and make your own decisions. It is your civic responsibility.
As you may know, we have heralded the opportunity to test videotaping of BOE meetings since 2007. The former BOE president said board members didn’t want videotaping — and one former BOE member opposed taping outright. With no discussion. Arrangements have been in place with the local cable companies as part of their franchise agreements.
Bill is the new facilitator, monitoring the pulse and dialogue within the community; the new manager of the team. I salute him stepping up to these sustained challenges.
