Summer may be almost over, but the activities don’t stop at the Yardville CYO.
Nestled on 23 acres on Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville CYO is part of the Catholic Youth Organization of Mercer County, which has been serving the area for more than 60 years. According to its mission statement, it is a public benefit community organization that enhances the lives of Greater Mercer County youth and their families by providing affordable, quality educational and recreational services. Though rooted in the Catholic tradition, the CYO provides these services in an inclusive and non-discriminatory manner respecting the culture and faith of all.
Yardville CYO Program Director Dan Bossio said the center’s fall offerings include a Preschool Program, After School Program and Pee Wee Soccer League.
The Preschool Program is state licensed and features small class sizes and flexible schedules. The preschool, for 3- to 5-year-olds, first opened in 2004 and is now led by head teacher/supervisor Kara DeBonis. The school’s curriculum focuses on the whole child, with the students involved in a number of activities including beginning math, creative arts and imaginative play. Full- and part-time sessions are available, and tuition also includes a morning and afternoon snack, school T-shirt and field trips.
“We have a very experienced staff who work here all year long,” Bossio said. “We pride ourselves on offering a fun, clean and safe environment for learning at affordable prices. We have a great facility and curriculum that is very beneficial for the students.”
The Yardville CYO Preschool is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children for having demonstrated a commitment to providing a high quality program for young children and their families.

The Yardville CYO After School Program is geared toward students enrolled in grades K-5. It also starts on Sept. 6 and operates from 3-6 p.m. Transportation is provided from Yardville Elementary, Yardville Heights and Sunnybrae elementary schools. The program follows the Hamilton Township school calendar.
The staff oversees activities including a computer lab, game room, arts and crafts and outdoor play. The students also have full access to the new Msgr. Toomey Annex, a 4,600-square-foot multipurpose room and gym. An afternoon snack is provided, along with homework and study times.
The Pee Wee Soccer League begins on Sept. 17. This coed league is for 4- and 5-year-olds, and will meet on Saturday mornings at the Yardville CYO soccer field. All CYO programs are licensed by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, Bureau of Licensing.
Bossio, who has been with the Yardville CYO for 11 years, said he is proud of the center’s services and outreach in the community.
“We provide an admirable service and have great community relations,” he said.
