The Ewing Arts Commission and the Art Has No Boundaries organization have joined together in an effort to showcase Ewing Township artists.
Each month, various types artistic works will be placed on exhibit at the township municipal building for members of the public to enjoy.
Participating artists are affiliated with the Ewing Arts Commission, a municipal body that seeks to promote the arts in the community, and the Art Has No Boundaries, a group that provides art programming at the Ewing Senior and Community Center.
“Breathtaking photography, intricate watercolor paintings and artwork made of materials you might need to take another look to figure out what it’s made of can be found right here in the Ewing Township Municipal Building,” said Bill Ulrich, chairman of the Art Commission.
The exhibition’s inaugural artist is Nancy Gilbert, whose works are on display throughout the ‘mini-gallery’ established on the second floor of the township building.
Gilbert is a former township employee of 25 years. Her late husband, Glenn Gilbert, is also a former township employee.
The couple retired to the Poconos where Nancy enjoys painting all genres—from animals, to sea and landscapes.
Gilbert is a self taught artist and enjoys sharing her work with family and now with the residents of Ewing Township.
Art Has No Boundaries and Ewing Arts Commission chose to feature Gilbert for the month of September as “her talent speaks for itself,” said Ulrich.
Works by Gilbert are available for purchase, as will be much of the artwork on display.
Local artists interested in becoming involved with the display should access the Ewing Arts Commission/Ewing Green Team artist survey at ewingartsnj.com/calling-ewing-artists.
The survey is part of a joint effort started earlier this year by the Ewing Green Team and the Arts Commission to compile an inventory of the township’s creative assets.
“Our goal is to create a directory of cultural, historic, natural, creative and human resources, including local artists, businesses, cultural activities and events, buildings/venues, and arts and community organizations in Ewing,” states the art commission’s website.
Once they have gathered and organized all the information received into one document, the organizations plan to create a Ewing Creative Assets Community Resource Guide—a one-stop source for all community-oriented people, places and events.
