I believe that the WW-P School Board is doing its job when it is successfully advocating for the needs of students — articulating and fighting for the resources, policies, and changes that will set them up to excel at the next level of study, and for their futures more generally.
As a graduate of High School South, and as a former teacher in some of the nation’s most under-resourced public schools schools, I know just what a privilege it is to have access to the schooling that WW-P offers its students. Ms. Deborah Marinsky was my librarian at HSS, and she was a great advocate for students within that role. I know that she will be a terrific advocate for WW-P students as a member of the school board.
In particular, I trust Ms. Marinsky’s judgment when it comes to important issues like state and national testing requirements that may not be right for our students and schools. I believe she will make sure that parent, teacher and student needs are addressed as we search for alternatives or reforms therein. Ms. Marinsky will make a great school board member because she has, for years, had her finger on the pulse of school and education reform, and the shifting goals for teachers and students that have followed.
It’s important that our school boards include WW-P parents and teachers. Ms. Marinsky is both. She is without a doubt the best situated candidate to serve our students, and she has my vote this November.
