The 30th annual Hopewell Harvest Fair, held on Sept. 24 on the grounds of the Hopewell Elementary School, featured six contests, including a bake-off, a photography contest and even a contest for man’s best friend.
The Hopewell Harvest Fair Board of Trustees extended special thanks to all contest participants and the contest chairs who helped to make the contests possible.
The Bake Off Contest was chaired by Cristin Timoney. Winners in the kids 12-and-under category for no-bake sweets were: 1st place, Sara Petrillo’s pumpkin cheesecake truffle mummies; 2nd place, Ben Gerstacker’s peanut butter balls; 3rd place, Emilie Sawicki’s simle cracker candy.
First in the adults holiday cupcakes or cake pops category was Samantha McCraw for her black widow cupcakes.
Mary Kolb won first prize in the sandwich cookies category for her oatmeal cranberry sandwich cookies. Second place went to Samantha McCraw’s custard creemes.
In the perfectly pumpkin category, McCraw again won, this time both 1st and 2nd prize for her pumpkin cheesecake brownies and pumpkin pecan bars, respectively.
The Homegrown Contest allowed local gardeners to exhibit the bounty of their gardens through a variety of categories that change each year. Kristin Rainy chaired the contest this year.
The Big & Beautiful Bounty award went to Emilie Sawicki for her beautiful cherry tomato, and Colin Noble won the Great Gourd award with a giant zucchini.
Find Freddy was a human scavenger hunt chaired by Heidi Wilenius. The object of the hunt was to find Freddy the Frog and as many of his friends as possible in one hour.
Winners in the adult-child team category were (1st) Keith and Amelia Hovey, (2nd) Ben Gerstacker and Susan Shipe and (3rd) Mackenzie and John Harsell.
In the adult category, winners were (1st) Amy Gerstacker, (2nd) Lorraine and Jack Seabrook and (3rd) Bryn Whiteley and Tom Seabrook.
In the child category, first place went to Colin Noble and Jake Richter. Second was Sophia Chin and third was Elizabeth Downie.
In the costumes category, the award for Most Stunningly Sensational went to Emily Muschinske as Frida Kahlo. The Most Fabulously Fantastic award went to Bob Milwicz, who dressed as The Man From Up. Most Radically Ridiculous was Rachel Springer as Crazy Cat Kid. The Most Cunningly Creative award went tp Phillip Altobelli and his dog who were dressed as Tve Seen Fire and I’ve Seen Rain. Honorable Mentions went to Alex Lebaw (a zombie), Brian Peterson (a pirate) and Marcus & Erik Carsky Wilson (Thing One and Thing Two).
