2015 was memorable. I hope we all have learned one good lesson: The importance of communication to successful policy making.
While there are many different areas each of us — the school administration, the board, and parents — can work to improve communication, I guess we all agree that transparency is the key area. There is no true communication without transparency. There is no true conversation if any party is not forthcoming.
To that end, may I suggest the following specifically:
1. Let’s record board meetings.
2. Let’s start a candid conversation on the student stress issue in our district. I think the meaningful first step is to take a closer look at what happened behind those very concerning numbers, those 120, 40, and 68 percent of students in the report, and work out a truly effective approach together.
3. Let’s work together to make sure the changes to the math curriculum are implemented truly up to the promises.
We have a long way to go. Let’s have a good start to the new year.
