David Kim, the Philadelphia Orchestra concertmaster and one of the top violinists in the country, will perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto as part of a Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey’s Symphonic Orchestra’s winter concert at Richardson Auditorium, Princeton University, on Sunday, January 24, at 7 p.m..

YOCJ’s Wind Symphony, String Preparatory Orchestra, and Pro Arte Orchestra will perform at 3 p.m. Each concert will be close to 90 minutes and a $25 ticket is good for both concerts.

The Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by John Enz, will also perform “The Moldau” by Bedrich Smetana. The concert will also feature a Saxophone Choir, a rare group for a youth orchestra. The Sax Choir will perform “Handel in the Strand” by Percy Grainger and “Overture to Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi, among other pieces. It is conducted by Jordan Smith.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by Brian Woodward, presents “All in A Garden Green” by Pierre La Plante and “Rolling Thunder” by Henry Fillmore. The String Preparatory Orchestra, conducted by Phillip Pugh, presents “Don Quixote Suite” by Telemann, “Sinfonia” by Franz Benda, and “What Dreams May Come” by Erik Morales.

The Pro Arte Orchestra, conducted by Phillip Pugh, performs “Holberg Suite” by Grieg. Pro Arte Orchestra and Wind Symphony, conducted by Phillip Pugh, present Symphony No.38 “Prague” by W. A. Mozart amd “Finlandia” by Sibelius.

YOCJ has performed since 1978. Two years ago, the orchestra toured Europe and played at the Esterhazy Palace in Austria, where Joseph Haydn spent much of his career. YOCJ is planning a 2017 tour in Germany.

YOCJ is composed of about 200 student players who seek to improve and play at a higher level. Players must be privately taught, and must continue to work with their school orchestras. Players can join through audition. The next audition is Tuesday, January 26.
