Two presentations are scheduled for the WW-P school board meeting on Tuesday, January 26.
There will be a public hearing on the semi-annual report on Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying. Martin Smith, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, will also present an overview of the district’s standardized testing scores.
The testing report will include information on how the district scored on PARCC, SAT, and AP exams. There will also be discussion on how the PARCC exam for grades 3 to 11 will factor into graduation requirements, a policy that will be determined by the state.
The three education committees (administration & facilities, curriculum, and finance) met Tuesday, January 19. The finance committee — Louisa Ho, Scott Powell, and Taylor Zhong — is in the early stages of discussing the 2016-’17 budget.
The administration & facilities committee agenda included preliminary discussions on videotaping board meetings and what information the committee needs to further explore implementation.
Discussion also included a formal request to rename Community Middle School in honor of retired principal Arthur Downs; a state-mandated transgender student policy; and the consolidation of the North and South boys hockey teams.
The A&F committee is chaired by board vice president Michele Kaish and includes board members Rachel Juliana and Isaac Cheng.
The curriculum committee is chaired by Dana Krug. Board president Tony Fleres and board member Yingchao Zhang are new this year to the committee, taking over assignments previously held by Powell and Cheng.
In other news, kindergarten registration is now open. Also open for registration is the A&E mathematics program for current fourth and fifth graders. Parents interested in having a child tested for entry into the program must submit a registration form by noon on Monday, February 1. Forms are available on the district website, www.ww-p.org.
