Theater to Go presents “Room Service,” a comedy to shake off the winter doldrums. Written in 1937 by Allen Boretz and John Murray, the screwball comedy centers on a wheeling-dealing Broadway producer, Gordon Miller, who struggles to find a backer for his new show, which he knows will be a smash hit.
Holed up in a Times Square hotel with 19 hungry actors and a ballooning room service bill, Miller tries to forestall eviction by concocting a series of ever-more preposterous events. Performances are at Kelsey Theater weekends from Friday, February 12, to Sunday, February 21.
Ruth Markoe of Lawrenceville directs the cast, which includes Steven Smith of West Windsor as Harry Binion.
An Army brat, Smith grew up all over as the family moved often. A graduate of James Madison University with a bachelor of arts in theater, he has also trained with Upright Citizens Brigade, People’e Improv Theater, and more. He lives in West Windsor with his wife and twin daughters.
In college, the first play he directed was “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail.” He was also the drummer for the band, “The Ice Cream Socialists.” He studied ballet when he was very young and had some dreams of becoming a choreographer.
Smith has been seen on television in “The Job,” “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” “Time of Your Life,” “The Pretender,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Sliders,” “California Dreams,” and more. He has performed on stage in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and more. He is best known as a video jockey and television personality who works for MTV. He began his career as host for various shows on VH1.
