The Garden Gate Garden Club of Lawrenceville will hold a program on Monday, March 21 featuring a presentation on Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement.
The talk is presented by Soonja Nam who studied Ikebana during college, and was the owner of a flower shop in 1975 in Pennsylvania, which she opened in 1975. Through the years, Nam has worked at a number of flower shops in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Attendees are asked to bring bring garden clippers, a shallow dish and a flower frog (pinholder) to the event.
The club is also holding events in April and May.
On Monday, April 18, garden writer Kate Copsey will present “The Right Sized Vegetable Garden,” a talk about how to grow the correct sized garden for the space people have available.
Copsey has been growing vegetables for many years. In 2001, she was certified as a master gardener in Virginia and has been doing talks and helping gardeners since then. She has written for local, national and international publications, and published her first book, “The Right Sized Vegetable Garden,” in February.
On Monday, May 16, David Byers and Linda Konrad-Byers will give a presentation and slide show titled “Garden Walk Buffalo – Rebuilding Neighborhoods Through Horticulture.”
Attendees can learn about what Buffalo, New York, is doing to rejuvenate streets, re-energize and develop the community. More than 400 private, corporate and community gardens are part of Buffalo’s renaissance.
David and Linda will share their experiences from the Garden Walk Buffalo event that they attended in 2014 and 2015. David has been a licensed landscape architect for more than 30 years and has been a master gardener since 2008. Linda was born and raised in Buffalo and is a retired educator.
This year is the Garden Gate Garden Club of Lawrenceville’s 47th year’s season, and it currently has 14 members. The club is a member of the National Garden Club, the Central Atlantic Region of the NGC and the Garden Club of New Jersey, District VII.
The program holds events on a monthly basis. Programs are held in September, October, March, April and May. They are held at the Lawrence Township senior citizens building at 30 Darrah Lane East at 7 p.m., on every third Monday of the month. Light refreshments are served. Parking is adjacent to the building.
