West Windsor-based Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra presents a concert on Sunday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the Nicholas Music Center at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Kate Liu, the young American pianist who earned the bronze medal at the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw last fall, will be soloing with the orchestra led by music director and conductor Chiu-Tze Lin. This concert marks the first orchestral performance Liu is making with an orchestra in the United States since winning the International Chopin Competition. She will perform the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor.
The orchestra will also perform Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra,” an educational piece aimed to introduce the various orchestral instruments. The program includes the “Haffner Symphony,” a famous work that was written by Mozart for his patron and mayor of Salzburg, Sigmund Haffner.
Board members and trustees from West Windsor include Chiu-Ling Lin, sister of Chiu-Tze Lin, Wen Zhang, Grace Hao, Molly Sung, and Paul von Autenried. Orchestra members from West Windsor include Cheng-Chih Kevin Tsai, first violin and concertmaster; Tzuyin Angelika Teng, co-principal viola player; and cellists Ethan Liaw, Eric Liu, and Richard Yuan.
“I am so thrilled about our upcoming concert with Kate Liu, says Lin. “This is a great honor for our West Windsor based orchestra, as we are the only orchestra she is performing with in the United States this concert season.”
