Artworks will be exhibiting three new exhibitions during the month of April.

The Main Gallery will be exhibiting, “If We Came From Nowhere Here, Why Can’t We Go Somewhere There?”, curated by Allison McDaniel. This exhibition is photography and video-based, charting journeys into temporality, flux, and Afrofuturism as explored by self-identified woman of Black/African descent. Featured artists are, Charmaine Nicole Bee, Nakey Brown, Sonia Louise Davis and her partner/collaborator Ivan Forde, Danielle Deadwyler, Bree Gant, Naima Green, Dhool Hassan, Janna Ireland, Kalima Nazarene, Sienna Pinderhughes, Lee Bullitt, Atong Atem, Sondra Perry, Jen Everett, Lachell Workman, and Sasha Phyars-Burgess.

The Community Gallery will be exhibiting,”Drive

and Determination” by Joan Wheeler and Joseph Gilchrist. Last summer, New Jersey hosted the National Junior Disability Championships, for junior athletes, ages 7 – 22 years of age, from all across the United States. The athletes had to qualify in their events at regional meets in order to participate in this Paralympic style event. This exhibit will highlight the athletes that participated in this championship and other adapted sporting events, including track and field, swimming, powerlifting, archery, basketball, sled hockey and others.

The images will show the competitive environment in which these athletes compete not only trying to achieve a personal best, but also trying to better their opponents. The photographs will also show how the athletes put their heart and soul into what they are doing. They want to show that they are real athletes and deserve to be treated and recognized as real athletes. The faces that are captured tell the story and show the drive and determination of each and every athlete to succeed whether they have a disability or not.

The ArtLab Gallery will be exhibiting, “I Eat Therefore I Am”, SIPMA Contemporary’s 2016 annual juried show. This exhibition is about consumption, which is endless and voracious – whether it is breathing air, smoke, narcotics, or ingesting food and drinks, medicine and supplements! Given the opportunity it often exceeds our needs. The practice of abstinence can be just as furious and fervent. Intellectually we consume gigabytes of data every day, more than one’s capacity to assimilate. So intrinsic is the need to consume that the desire to abstain calls for extreme conscious effort. Yet it has been the goal of every regime to distribute and control consumption of its people. The exhibit will feature giant sculpture and installation pieces of Glen Richardson and Kate Liepins juxtaposed with small etchings and collages by artists like Samuel Jarosz, Andre Rubin, Bruce Waldman, Margi Weir and others.

SIPMA Contemporary has showcased artists since 2012 in galleries, universities and not for profit spaces offering an opportunity to have their works gain exposure through exhibitions and publications. An international artist’s co-op dedicated to furthering art with a narrative, SIPMA, specializes in contemporary art inter disciplinary exhibitions. While the caliber of the individual artist impact the expanse and nature of the curatorial discourse, every show undergoes a highly competitive selection process simply to procure a brick and mortar exhibition space.

Tony Dispigna – a name frequently encountered in the history of design and typography, a long time professor at Pratt Institute in Manhattan and founder member of Pushpin Group, will share his journey in the arts before the opening reception on April 9th at 5 p.m. followed by the performance art piece Rules by Christina Silvius.
