In every edition of the Ewing Observer, Mayor Bert Steinmann answers readers’ questions. We often hear questions from members of the community that don’t get submitted to Ask the Mayor. We decided to pose some of them to him this month.
It’s the time of year when residents start cleaning up their yards. What’s the procedure yard debris gathered during for spring cleaning? Should people be leaving their brush and leaves at the curb for pickup?
We will start picking up loose brush and leaves placed at the curb during the first week in April, and will continue through June 17.
All residents can also drop off yard debris at the Jack Stephan Way (Navy Property Site) location. In addition, we will pick up yard debris that are placed in biodegradable bags on a weekly basis the day after your regular trash pickup day.
Some people still have their signs up from last year’s political season. With the presidential election upcoming, there will soon be a whole new crop of political signs springing up. Is there an ordinance dictating when people have to remove their signs after the election is over?
All political signs should be removed within 30 days after the election day occurs as per Ordinance #215-37-M. Failure to do so may result in a summons and fine issued by the municipal judge.
The township is conducting a property revaluation this year. What happens if a homeowner doesn’t let an assessor onto their property? How is the new value determined if the assessor can’t get on the property?
The company performing the reevaluation will send representatives with proper identification, and will make up to three attempts to view your home. If you do not permit the representatives to enter your home the homeowner will not have the right to appeal the assessment.
The town has been focusing on cleaning up parks and recreational facilities in town. The tennis courts in Moody Park have fallen into disrepair. Are there any plans to do any work to upgrade them?
The township has tennis courts at Ewing High School, Banchoff Park and behind the Ewing Senior and Community Center. The demand for tennis courts has changed over the years, as has the use of Moody Park.
The Moody Park tennis courts will be converted for use as additional parking, with this construction starting later this spring. We will keep the wall up on one court so it can continue to be used to throw or hit a ball.
