Hamilton’s Yardville Elementary School recently won the Promising Practices Award from Character.org for their 2015 Disabilities Awareness Day program.
Yardville was one of just 327 schools across the world to receive the honor. The award is given to schools for their effort in helping students develop empathy and inspire citizenship. Schools all across the United States, as well as schools in Canada, Columbia, China and Mexico, received the award this year.
“These great ideas really highlight the creative efforts of amazing teachers all across America — and the world,” Dave Keller, Character.org program director, said in a statement. “It’s great to recognize what’s going well in the classroom. These practices represent practical, effective ways to develop empathy, enhance conflict resolution skills and inspire good citizenship.”
Character.org, a national nonprofit, works with schools to educate, inspire and empower young people to be ethical and engaged citizens. The organization sponsors the award program to showcase the most innovative practices that are having an impact across the nation and abroad.
Yardville will receive a certificate and commemorative banner, which will be displayed outside the building.
