An article in the August 2015 edition of the Robbinsville Advance about the closure of Miry Run Country Club generated a large response from members of the community about what to do with the vacant land. The following are letters emailed to us or comments left on the August story on our website, Mercerspace.com:
I would like to remind our township leaders that government is a service function, not a business function. Our governments—local, county and state—have no right to be in a commercial business. Their function is safety, infrastructure, etc.
Residents should remind them that they are playing with the taxpayers’ money. They should let the owner of this property worry about selling it to someone who wants a commercial business. For them to consider purchasing this property is beyond my comprehension. I believe that the township of Robbinsville has purchased more property then they need with our tax monies. Maybe they should be working on how to reduce the taxpayers’ burden?

The township should do everything in its power to restore not only the golf course but the swim club as well. With all of the residential housing in the township a swim club is something that is sorely missing.

What happened to the idea of a Water Works like West Windsor? As West Windsor rebuilds and repaves roads, they also put in bike lanes and sidewalks. Would be nice to be able to use some of the Town Center amenities that our tax dollars pay for without getting nearly hit or run off the road.

Why doesn’t Mercer County step in and add it to the county courses?
–Mike Kulpa
The main goal is to keep it either a golf course or open space. Believe me, we hear you about slowing down residential development. We are very close to built out. It is difficult to stop residential development unless we are willing to purchase the property as open space. After reading some of the comments [on the township’s Facebook page] we may need to look at increasing the open space tax and preserving more.
