The following letter was sent to town of Princeton Engineer Bob Kiser:
You know that I have been complaining to you about traffic tie-ups at Route 1 and Harrison Street that seem to have worsened since the hospital relocated. I don’t think I have mentioned this brainstorm before: since drivers make two right-hand turns and a left to use the jughandle; instead of a right and a left, why not make the “island” larger to prevent motorists from making two right-hand turns at the jughandle?
Last week, I saw four motorists at one red light for Harrison Street, stopped, having made two right-hand turns. They were stopped such that the angles of the cars ranged from five degrees from the curb to 45 degrees from the curb. I never saw such a disgusting sight at this jughandle. I know there is nothing illegal about this, but come on, it’s the spirit of the law. Therefore, the traffic will back up onto Route 1 in the middle of the day, no less.
When DOT opens their eyes and sees what is not happening maybe more effort will be made on their part to alleviate the situation. In that way, there will be reduced accidents between the drivers referred to above and drivers like myself who wish to obey the law, written or unwritten.
