The workshops will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on September 23, 30 and October 7, at the Johnson Education Center, One Preservation Place, Princeton.
D&R Greenway Land Trust is set to host a series of workshops on healthy habits, healthy eating, with Princeton Farmers’ Market Founder Judith Robinson. The workshops will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on September 23, 30 and October 7, at the Johnson Education Center, One Preservation Place, Princeton. For each session, a one-day menu plan will be given to participants to begin the process of making choices. Each session ends with a fresh food tasting.
In the first session, participants will discuss the benefits of new eating habits to health, relationships with food, healthy fats and carbohydrates, the role of natural sugars, choosing healthy snacks, pros and cons of buying organic and the impact of soil health on food health.
The second session will cover local resources including farmers markets and CSAs, cooking techniques and meal planning with simple and tasty recipes. There will be discussion of basic ingredients to have on hand, how to cook non-meat proteins, types of cookware best for health, ways to simplify your kitchen and which vegetables to include.
In the third and final session, challenges and solutions will be discussed, as well as how to be an improvisational cook, how to make favorite recipes healthier, freezing in-season fruits and produce, canning, translating ingredients of packaged foods, recommended food brands and supplements.
Each session includes a menu plan and ends with a fresh food tasting.
Cost for all three sessions is $75 and supports D&R Greenway’s mission to preserve and care for land and inspire a conservation ethic, now and for the future.
