The website is the centerpiece of the “Buy Local” campaign geared toward encouraging Township residents to support locally owned, independent businesses that provide unique services to the community.
The website contains a “Buy Local” Business Directory divided into “Shopping,” “Dining” and “Services.” Within each section, consumers can narrow their search to specific types of businesses. The site also offers “Tuesday Deals,” specials that are available only on Tuesdays. Shoppers must mention “Shop Local Tuesday” when they visit the businesses to redeem the offers.
Several studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, rather than a national chain, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms- strengthening the economic base of the community.
Local businesses are owned by people who live in the community, are less likely to leave and are more invested in the community’s future. Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and provide vital jobs to local residents.
