Bertha Mae Hardy, 87, of Plainsboro, died August 31. Survivors include four children, Geraldine and Herman N. Boone, Willie L., and Demetra Hardy, 11 grandchildren; and many great- grandchildren.

William C. Voorhees Jr., 86, of Skillman died August 31 at Francis E. Parker Memorial Home in New Brunswick. Born in Princeton, he lived in Penns Neck, was educated in the Penns Neck and Dutch Neck schools, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1947. After graduation from Ursinus College in 1951, he served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, Scott and Steven, and a daughter, Susan Gons, and their spouses; a sister, Janice Wood; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10, at 2 p.m., at the Kingston Presbyterian Church, 4565 Route 27, Kingston. Donations may be made to the Kingston Presbyterian Church memorial fund.

Mildred D. DeGirolamo, 85, of Lakewood, died September 3. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lenora and Gary Wolinetz of Plainsboro.

Patricia Elizabeth O’Malley, 59, of West Windsor died September 11 at Merwick in Plainsboro. Born in Trenton, she lived in Titusville for 34 years and has lived in Enable’s Benford Group Home in West Windsor for 20 years.

She graduated from the Lanning School Special Education Program in 1977 and participated in day programs at Mercer ARC from 1977 to 2011. She retired from working at A Touch of Taste, the only full-service food and catering company staffed by people with developmental disabilities in Mercer County. She has since participated in Enable’s recreational day program and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Her late parents, Joseph and Elizabeth O’Malley, were instrumental in the establishment of Mercer ARC. Survivors include her aunt, Catherine Foley O’Malley; nine first cousins; her friends, Beth and Jack Herman and Izabela Andrzeczyk; and her Benford housemates of 20 years, Jill Camlet, Bette Kappeler, Denise Lesko, and Bernice Nolan. Sidney Hoffman, 85, of Elmira, New York, died September 11. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Michael Trokenheim of West Windsor; and grandchildren, Rachel and Ben Trokenheim. Donations may be made to Congregation Kol Ami 1008 West Water Street, Elmira, NY 14905.

Arthur Winkler, 71, of Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, died September 12. He was a former resident of West Windsor. A graduate of Rutgers University and Rutgers Law School, he retired in 2010 as a senior vice president at Cooper University Health Care. He had previously served as chief operating officer for the New Jersey Sports Authority, president of Garden State Park Racetrack, president of Freehold Racetrack, and was of counsel in the office of Governor Brendan Byrne.

Survivors include his wife, Vera; and children, Eli Winkler and Kate Winkler Keating. A memorial service will be held in New Jersey on Thursday, October 8. Donations may be made to the CurePSP Foundation.

Jeannette “Jaye” Fox Thomson Clayton, 76, of Clinton died September 12, in Morristown Medical Center. A former resident of West Windsor, she was a secretary for WW-P School District for 11 years. Born in Princeton, she previously worked for the English Shop in Princeton, and for both the Princeton Savings and Loan and the First National Bank of Princeton.

She served as past captain and president of the Twin “W” First Aid Squad, past president of the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Auxiliary, an emergency medical technician instructor, and was a member of the West Windsor Emergency Management Council. She was also active in developing EMS education and curriculum in the State of New Jersey, and taught for both the Red Cross and the American Heart Association.

Survivors include her godson and his wife, Daniel R. and Donna Snyder of Annandale; cousins and spouse, Joyce A. and Charles Snyder and Betty Simmons; and her special friend, Helen Filler of Trenton. Edward C. Dam, 55, of Edison died September 16. Survivors include a stepson, Robert C. West Jr. of Plainsboro.

Xiaoling Niu, 51, of Plainsboro died September 20 following a long battle with gallbladder cancer.

Born in Changyuan, Henan, China, she graduated from Zhengzhou University in 1981 and pursued a graduate degree in theoretical physics from University of Science and Technology of China. She was then an assistant professor in the Wuhan Institute of Textile Technology.

She moved to the United States in 1997 with her family and earned a master’s degree in statistics at Rutgers University. Niu worked at the Commission on Higher Education of New Jersey and then worked at the New Jersey Department of Health as a scientist. Her nine publications relating to cancer epidemiology have received more than 100 citations by other papers.

Survivors include her husband, Shanfu Zheng; and her son, Luyu Zheng. Arrangements were by Kimble Funeral Home in Princeton.
