The Knights came away with their first victory of the season, 33-7, in their annual matchup against crosstown rival South on September 25. C.J. Markisz ran for three of North’s five touchdowns. Jude Batoon scored on a fumble recovery in the first quarter, and John Owens capped the scoring on a 20-yard pass from Malik Thompson in the fourth quarter. Steve Schilder was three for five on extra point attempts for North. A.J. Austin scored the Pirates’ lone touchdown on a 12-yard pass from Scott Cochrane in the second quarter.
North plays next on Friday, October 9, at Hightstown. South plays on Saturday, October 10, at Hamilton West.

South won the Mercer County Tournament handily on September 29, finishing 6.5 points ahead of second-place Princeton. North finished in a tie for third with Hightstown.
South was dominant from top to bottom. First singles star Claudia Siniakowicz took the county title with a three-set win over Renee Karchere-Sun of Princeton Day School. Caroline Zhou added another title for South at third singles, where she defeated Ritika Yadav of Hightstown in straight sets.
Angela Weng was second at second singles, falling in the final to Hightstown’s Sahithi Muthyala. South’s first doubles team of Stephanie Ji and Kim Wong was also second, falling to Princeton in the finals.
South’s final victory came from its second doubles team of Manogna Konduri and Michelle Wong, who defeated the Pennington School’s duo in the final.
For North, Audrey Chen was third at first singles, and the first doubles team of Feruza Norqulova and Catherine Wang was fourth.
