On Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from noon to 1 p.m., the New Jersey State Library plans to present a free program with authors David A. Hart and John P. Calu, in the Level 2 Reading Room, 185 West State Street, Trenton. The authors will discuss their book, “Adventures Along the Jersey Shore.”
With seven historical fiction stories, the book combines mystery, history, legend, unexplained phenomena and myth. Through the adventures of siblings Kelly and Geoffrey Martin, and their friend Danny Windsor, the reader finds out the background of things like Tuckers Island and the painted rock located near Forked River. While the characters are fictional, the authors take them through real events which are part of New Jersey’s history and lore.
The authors have enjoyed a productive collaboration as novelists since 2003. They wrote “Trenton, the Novel,” a historical fiction published by Plexus Publishing.
John P. Calu was born and raised in Trenton and currently resides in Lawrenceville. He left as a young man travelling to Santa Barbara, California, where he established SongFactory– a workshop funded by Jane Fonda that led to a critically acclaimed children’s album. In addition to performing as a jazz singer and traveling throughout the Americas, he has been a California Artist in Residence, and a New Jersey Playwright through the Arts Council of Princeton. He is also the author of a collection of humorous essays entitled “A Yankee Jazz Singer in Cuzco.”
David A. Hart is a lifelong Trenton area resident and a descendant of a New Jersey signer of the Declaration of Independence. He received his Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Rider College, where he also earned a master’s degree in the school’s graduate program for administrators. A published author and poet, he has won several national songwriting awards. In 1985, he organized the highly successful JAM for hunger benefit concert held at Trenton’s City Gardens with all proceeds going to famine relief. Hart lives in West Trenton.
