We believe that our work on behalf of the children of Robbinsville Schools must reflect the hopes and dreams of the community we serve.
In the most democratic sense, public education is an agreement between the citizens of our community and those who carry out the day to day work in our classrooms. We believe that the values and vision our schools endorse must align with the values and vision of our community. Typically the Board of Education, as a group representative of the larger community, communicates these values as they set policy and allocate resources to keep the district in good working order. As a dedicated and thoughtful group of residents, the Robbinsville Board of Education is eager to sponsor the first State of the Schools celebration.
On Thursday, Nov. 19, we will gather at 6:30 p.m. in the Pond Road Middle School cafeteria to share hors d’oeuvres, good music, reflection and vision casting. Our primary objective will center upon bringing our community together to celebrate our schools and to affirm a collective vision for the future. We hope to have a turnout that well represents our multi-dimensional community to listen and share insights on the scope of our work and the direction of our schools.
Schools are an important community resource and one of the first things prospective buyers ask about when considering where to buy or rent a home. If the schools are perceived to be good, then the buyer/renter will proceed to look at the home or apartment. But how do we define good? What criteria are used to assess the value and efficacy of this vital resource? It is our hope to explore these issues together on Nov. 19.
Each year, we establish new objectives tied to five essential goal areas: strong academics, excellent finance and facility plans, community relations and an inclusive, safe and inspiring school culture. The main goal areas drive our planning and policy setting. They also drive our core values and beliefs.
We believe that schools should open doors of possibilities, generating a full menu of options and opportunities for every student. We believe that our differences contribute to our strength. We believe that a healthy and prosperous future depends on citizens able to think critically, act justly, and contribute thoughtfully to our world. Whether we are making plans to revise curriculum, teach a new pedagogical technique or replace the turf field, every decision is made with these values and beliefs in mind.
It is our hope to convene a large group of community members for the First Annual State of the Schools Celebration. Ultimately, we would like this event to promote dialogue and to ignite an exceptional level of community engagement and support of the important work of Robbinsville Schools.
