John Burkhalter is set to perform 18th century music at the William Trent House Museum on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The museum is located at 15 Market Street in Trenton.
Burkhalter, The Practitioner of Musick, will discuss and perform music documented in colonial America including works composed by Mr. Handel, Dr. Arne, Wm. Boyce and Benjamin Franklin’s friend James Oswald.
Burkhalter studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and Harvard University. As a scholar of the musical riches of 17th and 18th century Great Britain and Ireland, and the Colonial and early Federal periods in America, he has presented numerous musical programs at national and state museums and institutions. Listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Sites and designated a National Landmark by Congress, today the meticulously restored 1719 William Trent House and historic kitchen garden continue to reward visitors with a glimpse into life in pre-revolutionary America, with its interpretation of William Trent’s lifestyle and remarkably diverse household. Owned, maintained and operated by the City of Trenton with assistance from The Trent House Association, the historic house museum is regularly open to the public for tours Wednesdays through Sundays, 12:30 to 4 p.m. and by appointment for school and group tours.
