MCCC Gallery calls for entries for “Mercer County Artists 2015” by artists aged 18 or older who live, work, or attend school in Mercer County. Jurying takes place on Saturday, January 24, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the gallery on the college’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Artists may enter up to two original works completed since February, 2013, in any media except photography. (The county hosts a separate photography exhibit). Drop off work between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Works that are not accepted for the show should be picked up between 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Awards include $1,500 in purchase and merit prizes, including the Utrecht Art Supplies Best in Show prize and the annual West Windsor Arts Council prize for outstanding work by a West Windsor artist. Princeton Photography Club and D&R Greenway Land Trust invite students to submit artful photographs of open space for “Naturescapes,” its annual juried photography exhibition. VOICES seeks entries in its Young Composers Project, a composition contest for ages 5 through 12. Deadline is Tuesday, March 1. Children compose a piece of music with a vocal element for a soloist or choral ensemble, either unaccompanied or with instrumental accompaniment. The music may be written down in any kind of notation, formal or invented. Parents, piano teachers, and music teachers are invited to support, but not edit.

CONTACT is offering two volunteer training courses for prospective crisis hotline volunteers. Court Appointed Special Advocates for children of Mercer County offers volunteer information sessions at 1450 Parkside Avenue, Suite 22, Ewing. Hundreds of children in Mercer County are removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect each year. Capital Singers of Trenton, a 75-voice choir founded in 2006, seeks singers of all parts. Composed of amateur and semi professional singers of all ages, the repertoire includes an eclectic mix of musical genres and styles, both sacred and secular. Its mission is to promote the art of choral singing, enrich the cultural life of New Jersey, and serve as goodwill ambassadors for the city of Trenton. The choral selections include contemporary, spirituals, show music, choral masterworks, and premieres by American composers.
