Womanspace will honor human rights activist-scholars Minh Dang for her efforts to stop human trafficking at the 21st annual Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award on Thursday, May 14 at the Hyatt Regency Princeton.
Each year, Womanspace honors a person of distinction who exemplifies the qualities of the event’s namesake Barbara Boggs Sigmund. Sigmund, a mayor of Princeton Borough and the first female freeholder in Mercer County, was the driving force in founding Womanspace in 1977.
Dang is currently an independent consultant, trainer and speaker on issues of human trafficking, leadership development and social justice.
Most recently, Dang was the executive director for Don’t Sell Bodies, an anti-human trafficking initiative founded by Jada Pinkett Smith.
In May 2013, Dang was recognized the White House as a Champion of Courage for her efforts to end human trafficking.
She attended University of California at Berkeley where she received a B.A. in sociology in 2006 and a masters in social welfare in 2013.
Dang has traveled extensively telling her story of survival from child abuse and sexual slavery in the United States. Her story became public in 2010 when MSNBC aired the documentary Sex Slaves in America: Minh’s Story.
