The Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey will perform two concerts at Princeton University’s Richardson Auditorium on Sunday, February 1. Young musicians from central New Jersey include many from West Windsor and Plainsboro. Tickets are $20.
The 12:30 p.m. concert will feature the String Preparatory and Pro Arte orchestras and the Wind Symphony. Among the selections are Giacomo Puccini’s Chrysanthemum, Jacques Offenbach’s Can Can, Franz Schubert’s 8th Symphony, and Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The 4 p.m. concert will feature the Saxophone Choir and Symphonic Orchestra. The choir will perform Supra, by contemporary composer Jonathan Russell, and Alexander Glazunov’s Cortege Solennel. Yumi Kendall, acting associate principal cello with the Philadelphia Orchestra, will perform Edward Elgar’s Concerto for Violoncello with the Symphonic Orchestra. The orchestra will also perform Liberty Fanfare by John Williams and movements from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3,
Musicians from Plainsboro include Sidharth Mahant on baritone saxophone; Ashley Chang, Diane Hu, and Meghana Padmanabhan on clarinet; Vicky Lieu on flute; Sehej Bindra on French horn; Kristina Khaw on oboe; Vibhu Gandikota and Adnaith Bantval on percussion; Justin Bi, Jacob Niemann, and Vaibhav Mangipudy on trombone; and Adam Scherr and Ameya Natarajan on tuba.
Musicians from West Windsor include Kaylin Ku and Olivia Lee on bassoon; Maxwell Taub on clarinet; Elizabeth Barstein on euphonium; Alec Berger on French horn; Asmita Baskar on oboe; Sonia Balakrishnan, Aditi Nayak, Sharvari Tatachar, Sanjana Balakrishnan, Sarah Chen, Kayli Ko, and Anirudh Srikanth on flute; Ben Brown-McMillin, Steven Chien, Michael Foley, and Daniel Joseph on percussion; Alexander Mitchell, Keith Register, Shrey Parikh, and Matthew Rossi on trombone; and Sriram Bapatla, Freddy Maresca, and Ayanna Posipanko on trumpet.
Auditions to join the youth orchestra will take place on Tuesday, February 3, at 4 p.m. at High School North in Plainsboro. All musicians must take private lessons and be enrolled in their school music programs. Homeschoolers are welcome to audition.
