There are multiple local options for those who wish to celebration George Washington’s birthday on Feb. 22.
The Johnson Ferry House
From 1 to 4 p.m., the Johnson Ferry House at Washington Crossing State Park will be holding a Washington’s Birthday Celebration event.
Each room in the historic house will host a different activity.
In the parlor, attendees can listen to eighteenth-century music, including Washington’s favorite hymn, which Robin Fickle will be playing on harp.
Food historian Susan McLellan Plaisted will discuss the history of gingerbread, one of Washington’s favorite treats. She will also be preparing and baking gingerbread in the winter kitchen hearth.
Other activities include a wool spinning and woodworking demonstrations. Visitors will also have the opportunity to grind corn, write with a pen, read a horn book and play with colonial toys.
Washington himself will visit at 3 p.m.
Parking and admission are free, but a $5 donation is suggested.
The Johnson Ferry House is located at 355 Washington Crossing Pennington Road in Titusville.
Washington Crossing Park Association
The Washington Crossing Park Association will be holding a program entitled “After the Crossing: New Jersey in the American Revolution” from 2 to 6 p.m.
The three-part lecture series and commentary will focus on New Jersey’s role during the American Revolution beginning with Washington’s famous crossing and continuing with the Battle of Monmouth and War in the Watchungs.
The featured speakers are historians Larry Kidder, Tim Nist and Mark DiIonno. Richard Veit, the chair of the department of history at Monmouth University, will serve as moderator.
Well-known Washington re-enactor Sam Davis will also be in attendance.

The event will be held at the Union Fire located at 1396 River Road in Titusville.
