On Wednesday, March 4, from noon to 1 p.m., author and educator Michael Aaron Rockland is set to present a free lunchtime program entitled “The George Washington Bridge: Poetry in Steel.”
The George Washington has 108 million vehicles annually crossing the bridge and has been called the busiest bridge in the world.
Rockland will present perspectives on the George Washington Bridge that cover its history, architecture, engineering, transportation, design, the arts, politics and the post 9/11 mentality.
He is a professor and founder of the American studies department at Rutgers University. He is also a keynote speaker for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He has a B.A. in sociology and English from Hunter College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Minnesota.
